What Is Trichomoniasis, Reason To See A Doctor!
64Trichomoniasis - Sexually Trasmitted Disease (STD)
Although symptoms are commonly found in women both men and women can trasmit the common sexually trasmitted disease called Trichomoniasis or Trich. Trich is one of the most common curable STD in younger women. Roughly 7.4 million NEW cases are found each year in both women and men.
The most common site for the single-celled protozoan parasite the causes trich is the vagina in women and the urethra in men. Trich is trasmitted from intercourse, whether it is male and female or female and female.
Men do not show any signs or sypmtoms of trich except the possible irritation to the penis, mild discharge, and possible burning/itching after using the rest room or ejaculating.
The following signs and symptoms can be found in women who have trich:
Frothy yellow-green vaginal discharge with strong odor
Discomfort during intercourse or when using the restroom
Irritation and itching of the genital area
Possible lower abdominal pain
If a woman has trich she will normally be able to see the symptoms five to twenty-eight days after exposure. While having trich a woman has an increased chance of getting HIV if they are exposed to the virus.
To treat trich the person MUST be seen by a health care provider. A physical examination and tests are done to diagnose trich. Once diagnosed the health care provider will give a single dose of a perscribed drug, metronidazole or trinidazole.
Once symptoms have vanished after treatment the chance of getting re-infected is still there.
Besides sexual intercourse, Trich can come from a person comming in contact with damp objects such as towels or wash cloths that have been exposed to the parasite. Although this is very uncommon it is still possible to transmit it this way. The symptoms and signs are very similar to a yeast infection but a person does not get Trich from a severe or mild yeast infection even if it goes without treatment.
